Opening Reception

Friday, October 18th, 2019

On display: 10/18/19-10/21/19

Brazil’s favelas, Kenya’s Kibera, and India’s Dharavi are resourceful communities that have mastered their environments. I am inspired by the multitude of forms they have created in their ever-evolving architecture. From the outside, these alternative communities appear endless and clustered; however when you enter you realize the foundation at play and the awareness of the inhabitants of their footprint within their communities. This work explores a variety of processes, including machine knitting, printmaking, and jacquard weaving, to create two and three dimensional forms with a combination of new and up-cycled materials. The idea is to look at all the endless possibilities and potential the materials have, revealing how diverse they truly are.

“Fortunately art is a community effort - a small but select community living in a spiritualized world endeavoring to interpret the wars & the solitudes of the flesh.”
